it was a good day on the river today with more fish present for the day Luke and i found our selves fighting 13 fish between us plus another 5 later on when i was fishing with joseph. the river has droped back down again and the westerly was just enough to send a few more fish our way. glow bugs under tungsten bombs or split shot seemed to be the go but the odd fish also fell to the very small natural. there were many more rainbows about today all our fish were rainbows except for one monster in the middle reaches which delt to
luke well and truly haha.   we were on the water at 7 this morning
and the first fish fell to my glowie just down from school masters but there were many cars in the car park and a few up the river early which made it a bit hard going to start, but good to see people are braving the early morning frost. the fishing should pick up over the next few days if we get a bit of rain and maybe a westerly at the same time now that would be a blessing. so heavy droppers and glowies are the pick of the day for now. tight lines

keep it short and sweet manly because there is not a hell of alot to report about. Luke and I stated a bit later today around 9, Luke landed 1 rainbow in the dam, photos were taken but we need to find the cable to upload them. it was pretty slow most of the morning with no fish until around 11 when I managed to land a really nice brown in washerwomans which gave me a great scrap by this time luke had gone home with a headache so i pressed on managing to get into another rainbow just down from cresent pool this fish was fresh. I then met up with Joseph and his dad and fished up river his dad managed to hook a nice rainbow in the cough cough pool. me and joseph walked up to the little run around the pig and he managed to pull a fresh rainbow from there. we then made our way up pulling one more for our efforts. well i was waiting for my personal taxi to arrive (cheers

dad) i walked on down to power lines and could see some browns feeding in the shallows so i put my glow bug right in front of a big ol' jack and first drift boom and i lost it next drift a hen this time boom and well i lost it ohwell s#!% happens. any way the river was low and clear today with hardly any fish around so lets pray for wind and rain and hope the trout gods are listning to us. tight lines.

Hey all     10.7.09

Fishing was relatively slow today with only 5 fish pulled by Luke and I. The river is very low and clear and needs some South Island stalking methods in some places at the moment. The first fish of the day was found in the top run of the crescent pool and the fresh rainbow fell to my glow bug under a prince nymph with two BB split shot above. Luke then was next to hook up with a nice fresh 5lb brown from Totara bridge pool. I dropped down to the run below pig and had a walk up the run and stumbled upon 5 or 6 big brownies lurking in the shallows. After 5 casts I managed to hook, haha, I wish more like spook all of the fish in front of me. It was a slow day and we now really need some rain to bring some more fish up the river. Same as yesterday, heavy weights and glowies although, all Luke's fish fell to naturals so they can't be to picky at the mo. Tight lines.
