Windsor Cup 2010
Preparations for the 47th Cup began back in March when it was decided to make a full weekend for our visitors rather than just Saturday. What came about was inviting a special guest to make a presentation to the group...this turned into having stakeholders in our outdoors invited along to meet Doug Stevens (www.nzfishing.com) and share his experiences going forward into running for Parliament. Graham Carter from Fishing and Outdoors also came to support us and we think he was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere around the event and getting to meet our Members and visitors.
Doug's presentation was focussed on our ability to access land and waterways for hunting and fishing. Also of importance was the state of some of the waterways in NZ and plans that were afoot for them like damming. The presentation was well received and very relevant to our visitors and members.
As usual, Saturday dawned (sort of) with persistant rain that DID NOT stop all day. Not perturbed, most of the lads were off in all directions with all sorts of grand plans. The Usual Suspects were keen to put pressure on early and Pete and Lew had fish on the board by morning tea. Not bigguns but still a statement!
Daryl drifted in with a nice hen after lunch and claimed he had fished the rip for 9 hours......he actually didn't bring his fish in but called Faye to drive it back for him because it was too big and he was too tired. The winner came from Andy who first fished the 'Nui on the Queen's Birthday and was he a happy boy! Early suggestions by his 'mates' that Andy would be just making up the numbers was certainly off the mark. Andy had his name added to the Cup and gets to raft the Tongariro with Rafting NZ . Daryl grabbed second place and will be kayaking to the Maori Carvings with Brian from Wilderness Escapes. His best mate Peter scored the Lucky Door Prize and the boys went Jet Boating on the Waikato Sunday arvo with Rapids Jet. We believe Daryl was distressed because his hair got messed up. Young Kristian Larsen had his first cast on the 'Nui and was rewarded with a certificate and really bad fish hat to encourage him. We also had Kevin from Pennsylvania spending the fortnight with us and fishing his big heart out. Yet again the Lodge has made a life long friend and put a smile on our faces.
Finally thanks to all our great sponsors and partners which make the Cup even more unique. As the Cup nears it's 50th, we need to contact all past winners so if you are one of them or know somebody on the Cup page then let us know.
